DETROIT – Hercules Tire is recalling some light-duty truck tires in the U.S. and Canada because the belts and treads can separate from the tires.
The recall covers 10-ply Load Range E tires in the company’s All Trac line. All the recalled tires are 16- or 17-inches (40.5 or 43-centimetres) in diameter and are used mainly on commercial trucks.
Findlay, Ohio,-based Hercules says it is still determining how many tires are involved. The company’s website says the tires were made from late 2008 through the 40th week of 2010.
Hercules says in documents sent to government safety regulators that the separations could reduce a driver’s ability to control a vehicle.
At least one crash has been reported but it is unclear if anyone was hurt.
Hercules says it will replace the tires for free.
