BERLIN – Influential German newsmagazine Der Spiegel says its editor in chief, Wolfgang Buechner, will step down at the end of the year.
The magazine said in a statement Thursday that Buechner, who left Germany’s dpa news agency in 2013 to take the post at the weekly magazine, is leaving after reaching a “mutual agreement” with Der Spiegel.
Der Spiegel says a decision will be made soon on a successor. In the meantime, the magazine will be run by co-deputy editors Klaus Brinkbaeumer and Clemens Hoeges.
The magazine’s popular Spiegel Online website will be run by co-deputy online editors Barbara Hans and Florian Harms.
