HANOVER, N.J. – A 5-ton generator has fallen from a crane at a construction site in northern New Jersey, killing two workers.
Hanover Mayor Ronald Francioli says a strap on a crane lowering the generator at an under-construction firehouse snapped Thursday morning.
Morris County prosecutor’s office Executive Captain Richard Rose says the first man died at the scene and the second died later at a hospital. The mayor says one man suffered a collapsed lung, a broken rib cage and leg injuries.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration spokeswoman Lenore Uddyback-Forston says an inspector was dispatched to the work site to investigate after the fatal accident.
The work site is the future home of the Whippany Fire Company.
A spokesman for county prosecutors says the accident is under investigation.
