PRAGUE – The Czech Republic’s second largest city has rejected a plan by U.S. retail giant Amazon to build a distribution centre that would create 2,000 jobs.
Brno mayor Roman Onderka said he thinks Tuesday’s decision by councillors means a “definite” end of the project.
Onderka said he disagrees with the decision but has to accept it. He said that “Brno wasted an opportunity to get a strong investor” at a time when 23,000 local citizens are unemployed.
Brno is located 200 kilometres (125 miles) southeast of Prague. Amazon did not immediately comment.
