SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A physics institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has received a $65 million donation — the largest single gift in the university’s history.
The Los Angeles Times reports Thursday (http://lat.ms/10BUW9X ) that the donation by Charlie Munger, the vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, will fund a new visitor housing facility for the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics.
Munger said in a statement last week that the facility will help physicists know each other better and build trust, which is vital for reaching breakthroughs in the field.
