PROVIDENCE, R.I. – An auction house official says about two dozen parties from around the world have expressed interest in next month’s sale of intellectual property belonging to former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s bankrupt video game company.
Nick Jimenez of Heritage Global Partners says the auction for 38 Studios’ assets, including the unfinished game “Copernicus,” is Dec. 11. He declined to estimate the property’s worth but says he hopes bidders see “tremendous value.”
Court-appointed receiver Richard Land says well-known industry figures are among the interested parties.
Rhode Island’s economic development agency gave 38 Studios a $75 million loan guarantee in 2010. The state is on the hook for some $90 million related to the deal after the company collapsed.
Some industry analysts say they’re doubtful the intellectual property is worth much.
