In the Oct. 22, 2007 Briefcase we wrote about SABMiller and Molson Coors Brewing Co.s plans to combine U.S. and Puerto Rican operations. We also pointed out this move puts pressure on InBev and Anheuser-Busch to join forces. Well, as noted in a Reuters story, Trendsmagazine, a Belgian publication, reports InBev and Anheuser-Busch are in talks to merge. Neither company is commenting publicly on the matter.
As for the latest on the SABMiller and Molson Coors union, a definitive agreement to form MillerCoors LLC was signedin late December. The companies say while the transaction still needs to clear various regulatory and third-party approvals, they expect finalization of the deal to be complete by mid 2008.
