$300 tax on bloggers

Philadelphia is levying a $300 (U.S.) tax on resident bloggerswho collect revenues from ads on their sites. The charge is for a “business privilege license” to continue working in the city. Apparently freelance writers have to pay the fee, so its only fair bloggers pay it too, defenders argue.
Yet, the tax seems rather draconian for bloggers. Only a small majority make more than $300 a year from Google AdSense revenues. Many willstop blogging orrefrain from selling space to advertisers. Lets hope this tax idea stays in Philadelphia.
